PEPITA is one of Matilde’s styles inspired by the concept of the pepita – the Italian term for nugget. PEPITA jewels are crafted from 3-D printed gold, with artfully arranged clusters and strands of pepita nuggets, resembling faceted precious stones. In combining precious metals with non-precious materials, Matilde creates a charming and whimsical jewellery series that challenges the commentary on what quantifies something to be precious. The act of combining gold and diamonds to create a printed jewel that resembles a faceted gem is a superb jewelling technical achievement that can be just as precious as a faceted gem to the wearer – the notion of preciousness is personal, malleable and evolving.
